#18 - Barenaked Ladies? - good music, no boobs.

BNL, three little letters stand for one amazing band... Barenaked Ladies.

Do you know these Canadian musical geniuses? That's right - I used the G word. Wanna know why? Because their songs can be pop, heartfelt, silly, raw, poignant, powerful... all on one album. and they are always changing, always growing as a band.

They are just too much fun. Fun while pulling at your heartstrings... somehow it all just works out.

This is one of their more slow sad sappy songs... but i love it. AND THERE IS CELLO. *swoon*

#16 - MMmmmmMMmmm gimme some Cake!

OH Cake-

not a yummy delicious baked treat, but rather a fabulous band that always leaves me pleasantly surprised!

There is something different about them.... they don't really sound like anyone else - and for that I love them.

If you are not aware -they went fairly mainstream in the late 1990's with their album "Fashion Nugget".

Favorite part - they have many songs that make poignant statements about life and love while having titles like Sheep Go To Heaven, Goats Go to Hell
Short Skirt, Long Jacket,
and my favorite
Shut the Fuck Up

...

They have a sense of "sophisticated music for the every man" - they sing love songs that don't feel too dramatic, cinematic or cliche. There's no vibe of living in a movie. Their raw, straight forward approach to songs makes them feel real, present, and applicable to life.

They've also done AMAZING covers of  I Will Survive and Never Gonna Give You Up

Enjoy!

#15 - Ben Folds is full of awesome

So Ben Folds is awesome.

no seriously. if you don't already know this- stop reading right now and go search him on youtube. download all his albums on itunes. GET YOURSELF ACCLIMATED.

If you listen to new Ben - you should really take some time to discover old school Ben Folds Five.
If you love BFF and think solo Ben isn't up to par- get that stick out of your ass, his stuff is still awesome.

I really couldn't pick a favorite song if I wanted to... but i'll try.
he even has a song called "Kate" and the chorus is "I wanna be Kate!" (it's like he knows me)

This song is me, at 15 years old, dancing around my room. EVERYTHING'S HEAVY!

#14 - listen to this ... you can thank me later.

let's talk about Paolo Nutini

first of all, he is AWESOME.

My favorite way to describe him - adult pop with feeling.

He is living and breathing every lyric, every note - experiencing it as he sings it. This is absolutely what turns me on about musicians... and is how I feel about Adam Durtiz of Counting Crows and Ryan Adams.

Some of my favorites of his include Jenny Don't Be Hasty and Last Request .... but this song posted below is one i recently discovered and fell in love with.

he sings - "It was in love I was created and in love is how I hope I die."

SWOON.AMAZING.SO TRUE.

#13 oh happy day, THE MUPPETS ARE OSCAR NOMINATED!

MOST EXCITING NEWS OF THE DAY!!!!!....

The Muppet Movie got an Oscar Nomination for best song! - which in my opinion they are sure to win.

Something you probably don't know about me- I love the Muppets, and after seeing the newest Muppet Movie (on opening day) I walked out totally in love with this song.

It's a GREAT song...   hilarious with a great 70's pop song feel.

Brett McKenzie, who wrote the music and lyrics, totally deserves this win.

#12 - It's a very Beatles Monday...

oh The Beatles.

I try to not be too Beatles-centric when discussing music.

Even though I think they are the greatest band ever... I just don't want to be too cliche or turn off people who don't like the Beatles. (Shockingly, those people do exist).

However - today is not one of those days.  The Beatles are fucking phenomenal and making my Monday morning much brighter.

Here's one of my later favorites, off of their second to last studio album, Abbey Road.
