#6 - Happy Birthday, Gentlemen

December 13th is a very strange day for me ...

It's my maternal grandfather's birthday - he passed in 2001.
It's my father's birthday - he passed in 2000.
It's my theatre student Wes' birthday- he passed 4.5 months ago.

Three men I have lost - who meant so much to me individually - all born on the same day.

Sometimes the world just freaks me out.

In honor of these amazing men I give a song that has always touched me, and seems very fitting today.

#6- The Beatles - Let it Be

#4 - FAVORITE BAND FRIDAYS

IT'S FINALLY FRIDAY!

which is now also - "Favorite Band Friday" !!!!

It just so happens that Counting Crows in my favorite band - and to kick off the very first FBF I have chosen a song off their most recent studio album Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings (2008).

Counting Crows are my favorite band for so many reasons... but I will admit that even I sort of fell off after Hard Candy. It wasn't a bad album, necessarily... it just didn't feel like the Counting Crows I had come to love so dearly.

However, their most recent album I enjoyed greatly- feeling that they had sort of come back around full circle to their earlier style on August and Everything After

Here's my favorite song from their 2008 album (#4!)

Counting Crows - Insignificant

#3 - Get Your Tissues

Here's the deal - this song makes me cry.

I've always been a sap for piano singer/songwriters.

I don't even know what to say about this song....

just listen to it.

#3 - Regina Spektor - Samson

#2 - everyone bounce around

Someone please tell me if there is a genre or phrase, etc to reference what I lovingly refer to as "bouncy rock".

Music that makes me want to bounce about when I'm rocking out is totally my jamz. (I had way too much fun formulating that sentence).

Bands that I feel fit into this category include but are not limited to;  (early) The Magic Numbers, (early) The Rosebuds, Rilo Kiley, Belle & Sebastian ...

so go ahead - click play below and tell me you don't start doing a head bob in your chair.

It's happy rock, for a happy soul.:)

For your song today (#2!) I give you

The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You

#1 - kickin it old school

This song is just... wow. Old school Billy Joel is beyond incredible and this song seems to epitomize that for me.

If you've never really given him a chance do yourself a favor and listen to She's Always A Woman, For The Longest Time, New York State of Mind... brilliant.

His music has been really affecting me lately - So I give you New Song Daily #1
